George Michael: His Decades Addiction Fueled by Grief

George
“Grief can be dealt with early in one’s life and better coping mechanisms set up for the unconscious mind to reference leading to a healthier and more emotionally fulfilling life.”

Super Star George Michael’s passing was such a shock to the pop culture world. His creative talent and force left indelibly sealed by MTV as his videos were at the height when video iconography reigned in the late 80’s and 90’s .

What was shared on the video screen was the projection of confidence and smoldering sex appeal. But what was underneath, inside his mind, was a battle with depression for over 2 decades.

MAIN-george-elton-main

The death of his first love, Anselmo Feleppa and later his mother, Lesley, plunged him into a deep depression. He told the Independent, “I struggled with huge depression after my mother died. Losing your mother and your lover in the space of three years is a tough one.”

Feleppa died in 1993 and Michael coped with the death by smoking as many as 23 marijuana joints in a day and throwing himself in this music, said the Mirror.

He also turned to Prozac as he was devastated when his mother died in 1997.

Recently it’s been brought to light that the pop star battled a “spiraling” heroin addiction, according to a UK media outlet.

An unnamed source has told The Telegraph newspaper that the pop legend had been battling addiction over the past year and had been treated in a hospital for an overdose.

My writing here is strictly a review of others accounts and in no way makes any judgement regarding Michael. It’s a gleaning from his own words, reports and evidences of his life.

grief 2

Grief, emotional pain, deep betrayal; when they happen to us, our mind tries to find a way to deal with it, rationalize it. To do this the mind will send emotions to a body part/organ which then develops into a somatization or possibly a dis-ease. We will also develop a coping mechanism, mostly selected from learned modeling and emotional imprinting from our family and those who raised and influenced us.

Many times, clients will say they have dealt with the grief. That they have been to therapy and understand it better. They have pushed it away, out of site out of mind, they don’t think about it. They will say, “I don’t need any help with that, I will figure it out on my own.”

OR, they will say they don’t want to forget because it’s a reminder of what happened and how they will never ever let it happen again. Only, it happens again, and again and again. Because it’s an emotional coping pattern they have reinforced in their lives that the unconscious feels will make them safe. Right or Wrong, Good or Bad, that program has been installed and they will repeat it.

But understanding it better, pushing it away, not thinking about it, figuring it out on our own, or keeping it as a reminder does nothing to change it or transform it.

With my clients I take the past, their old memories, release the troubling memory in a loving safe way, and replace it with what they do want in their lives.

Michael slid into depression as his coping skill after his lover died and into even deeper depression when his mother died later. It snowballed.

Daily Prayer Treatment - Today's Prayer Treatment

To cover his emotional pain he dealt with it with cannabis, Prozac, work and possibly later with heroine.

People don’t know how to handle their pain is the bottom line. They are an “avoidaholic” looking for anything: food, sex, alcohol, drugs, substance abuse, work, exercise, meditation, TV, OCD, and any other hyper control mechanisms that can be used to hide behind as it’s painful to feel the emotions and deal with them.

The standard traditional methods used don’t actually transform the pain, mostly because most practitioners don’t think it can be transformed. Or the client has been told it’s not safe to be transformed; best do it in little increments.

ecomic

And then there are the economic forces as it’s more financially conducive for the practitioner to keep the client in that state of mind and trapped by continually examining, revisiting and further developing the story of the trauma, never ending.

With my clients, I step into their life, figure out what they are doing to continually recreate this belief and sadness. Then I help them on a continuing basis to ferret out the emotional traumas and pain, the grief, and loss of control and replace it with self-empowerment and the life they desire.

In a hypothetical reality, if Michael or a client similar to his situation had come to me after a lover’s death, we would have released the pain of the grief and kept the love that was there. He would then been able to move forward in life fueled by that love. He would have empowering coping skills to deal with any emotions or unexpected life events that would have arisen.

Then possibly the pain of his mother’s death would have been less and we would have continued again to go inside and let go of the grief and pain of the memory and circumstances around her death from cancer. He would have honored her and kept her loe, dropping the pain, using that to propel him in his life from there on out.

CUQx-VmVEAAO97f

According to reports Michael led an amazing and extraordinary life of humility, service and love to those around him and the issues he felt important. From my experience if I had encountered a client such as him early on in their life path, I would like to think their contribution would been even greater.

A life free from guilt and grief. A newly empowered life built on their existing capacity and with the addition of new tools learned with me, allowing them to move to even a higher plane of love and fulfillment.

While some artists hide behind glitz and glamour to hide a lack of talent, Prince also had an impressive vocal range and musical talents. His fans are still trying to recover from the shocking news of this super star’s recent death and what may have led to it. He wasn’t exactly young anymore, but we all expected him to have quite a few years left. Although there’s been no official cause of death released yet, many believe that his addiction to painkillers is what did him in. There are a few clues as to why this is a possible scenario, but first let’s look at the life of this legendary singer.

2016-06-18_11-35-27

WATCH AWESOME !!!!!!

This unique songwriter, vocalist, and creative musician was born with the name Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 7th, 1958. He grew up with creative and musical parents, so perhaps it’s no surprise that he went on to be so intrigued and enamored by that lifestyle. His father, John Nelson, was a musical artist who performed under the name Prince Rogers. His mother, Mattie Shaw, was a jazz singer and performer who performed regularly with her husband’s band.

Prince noticed his interest in music as a young boy and soon picked up the drums, guitar, and piano. Quite impressively, the young man taught himself these instruments. When his parents split up when he was around age 10, he and his sibling divided their weeks between each parent’s house. Unhappy with this arrangement, young Prince ran away to move in with a neighboring family named the Andersons. Once he reached his teenage years, Prince joined his very first band, “Grand Central”. Many successful artists have a rough childhood and channel their frustration into some type of passion, which seems to be the case with Prince, as well.

It was 1978 when Prince got a record deal with Warner Bros. In later interviews, the singer admitted that was a kid he has epilepsy which manifested in seizures, causing him to be made fun of at school. When he first came onto the music scene, he tried to make up for this bullying by being as loud and flashy as possible. This became a signature style of the legend and one of the many unique things he became known for.

People close to Prince have said that he’s struggled with serious pain, especially in more recent times. Those of us who know anything about drugs are immediately wondering, upon hearing this, about the connection between this pain and his recent death. Many years of performance, much of which was enthusiastic moving and jumping around up on stages, had led to issues with his ankles and hips. These issues persisted for so long, he started to get really down about them, which he revealed in an interview with Kevin Frazier from Entertainment Tonight.

Another source has claimed the same thing. Sheila E., who has been friend with the man for years and was even engaged to him at one point, said in an interview with Good Morning America that the singer was in pain constantly. All those jumps from high surfaces in fancy boots eventually started to wear on him. But performing was his life, and he wasn’t about to let that stop him. He was dedicated to his art, regardless of the toll it took on his body. Every musician who becomes a legend has this same philosophy.

Less than a week before he died, a private plane that the celebrity was on had to perform an emergency landing to rush him to a hospital in a small city in Illinois. Official spokespersons for Prince have said that he had the flu, but still other sources claim that the artist had overdosed on OxyCodone and needed an injection to be kept alive. Crew members of the artist told the medical professionals that Prince had needed the pill he took for his serious pain in the hip. He had had replacement surgery about six years ago.

Once you read about this information as a whole, the puzzle pieces seem to start fitting together as to what killed the legend, Prince. There is another clue that points to addiction, which is a comment made by a man who claims to have sold drugs to Prince in the past. The man, who goes by “Doctor D” (to remain anonymous, which is probably a smart move), said that the star had a major addiction to hydromorphone. This mysterious Doctor D says he was the celebrity’s drug dealer starting in 1984 all the way up to 2008. The “Doctor” worked alongside Prince on a movie set for Purple Rain and claims that the star was already hooked when he began selling him drugs. Perhaps not wanting to get any of the blame for what became of the singer, Doctor D was insistent about the fact that he didn’t start Prince out on opiates.

The dealer revealed that Prince was addicted to Dilaudid and was also no stranger to the junkie’s best friend, fentanyl patches. These hardcore opiates are nothing to mess around with and can cause serious addiction and health problems. Dedicating yourself to your art form means that pain is not an option, and the singer did everything he could to maintain his abilities to move around in his signature ways and live up to his great name.

Another clue that points to his cause of death is the fact that in his last days, Prince made multiple journeys to a nearby Walgreens. Paparazzi photos depict the singer outside of the pharmacy a mere hours before someone found him passed out in the elevator of his $10 million home.

An autopsy was performed and the celebrity was cremated. The autopsy results will take at least a month, with fans anxiously awaiting the news of what could have ended such an enthusiastic and passionate life.

A Tribute Jamie Lee Curtis

It is with great honor and admiration that this tribute to the amazing Jaime Lee Curtis happens to be compiled by an adult lady who is recovered from substance abuse for some 12 years now.  Actually this article was posted late on line due to a telephone call from a person who had fallen victim to addiction of pain pills as a result of surgery.  The person called for help and is ready to begin a new life of sobriety. That crisis was attended to today with a feeling of joy knowing that Jaime Lee Curtis would be in agreement to what was taken care of first.  You see, Ms. Jaime also had surgery and was given pain medication.  Like so many present day victims, she became overly dependent on the prescription drug and then became addicted.

Jaime Lee Curtis is remarkable!  She is an overcomer!  She is steadfast, dedicated, family conscious and proactively caring about the feelings of children and the recuperation of others.

A Tribute Jamie Lee Curtis Click to Tweet

STOP ADDICTION ANIMATION 3

We already know that she is a worldwide known beauty and has a body figure few have ever accomplished and maintained.  Has the public ever contemplated the regimented style of life one needs to conduct in order to keep a firm and in toned body like that of Jaime?  She has to eat correctly and exercise religiously while being a wife, a mother and devoted family person.  What about the lines to remember, meditate on and step into for so many roles and characters of movies and now the new TV series: Scream Queens?  She has even refused top notch acting jobs at first because family life and duties are priority in her heart.

Jaime Lee publically states that to recover from drugs and alcohol is the number one accomplishment of her life.  That pathway to recovery began in 1999.  I and many recovered adults in the world understand the gravity of that accomplishment.  She had already written her first children’s picture book about 2 years prior to going into addiction recovery.  Her first book is: “Tell Me Again about the Night I Was Born”.  Having very busy parents can be difficult for offspring.  Having famous parents in Hollywood or elsewhere can be difficult for offspring.

jamie-lee-curtis-759

This is why Jaime Lee Curtis had promised herself never to neglect spouse or children for career.  This is why her continued children’s books address feelings and encouragement to children that they are valuable and do have great worth.  She wants children to know that up days and down days and odd days and celebrate days are just facing life on life’s terms.  What a wonderful gift to provide to future generations.  Her insightful picture books are in more than one language.  And sometimes we in pain do not hear words of wisdom from those who are too near to us.  But one can be able to recognize consoling and explanations about life through those pictures saying a 1000 words in Jaime Lee Curtis’ picture books.

Jaime also is passionate to help others be able to go to drug and alcohol rehabs if they cannot afford it.  She is proactive in fund raising for addiction recovery institutes and rehabs.  Think about it.  When one stands in front of the public eye and goes transparent about their drug and alcohol addiction battles and then elaborates on the treasure of new spiritual awakenings that result from addiction recovery; that person is dying to self in order to give new life to the ones who are ready to hear and get help.

Jaime Lee Curtis has been married 32 years and she says there is one paradigm mental shift to being able to stay married to her first husband that long. It is so simple yet, so profound.  Her formula is: do not leave. This is interesting since this article is published in one of the fastest growing addiction information digital magazines in the nation. What am I pointing out?  It is the first drink or drug that will make one relapse. Just stay away from the first drug or drink just for today and you will stay sober.  Just do not pick up or use no matter what!  This truth parallels with Jaime Lee Curtis’ simple formula for being married to the same husband 32 years.  She says: “just do not leave the marriage, no matter what!” ~Simply put; simply profound.~

STOP ADDICTION ANIMATION 3

Another ‘profound’ gift from within Jaime Lee Curtis to those who admire her is that we are to be ourselves and follow our hearts about the taste and desires we pursue in life. For example: Jaime Lee Curtis has absolutely no interest in the top designer names, fashion shows or making sure she is wearing the latest trend as dictated by others. The high fashion attire worn by Ms. Jaime Lee Curtis is her integrity worn within that brightly glows outwardly.  She has learned what so many others who have found addiction recovery have learned.  That knowledge is to live in freedom of fears, doubts and insecurities of what others do or think.  She loves her family.  She perfects her talents and shares them.

When she has done none speaking acting parts where her script lines entail nudity and exotic body movement with dance, Jaime Lee Curtis performs in the best of taste.  It is a  true fine art. She is indeed a total woman.  I think it is summed up very well by one of her very recent Twitter shares.  Please read this and if you are a male, do share it with your lady.

And Jaime Twits: I needed this from Annie Lamott.  ALL of us over 30, 40, 50, 60, 70.  We are all looking at what we have NOT done.

“Oh my God, what if you wake up some day, and you’re 65 or 75, and you never got your memoir or novel written; or you didn’t go swimming in warm pools and oceans all those years because your thighs were jiggly and you had a nice big comfortable tummy; and you were just so strung out on perfectionism and people-pleasing that you forgot to have a big juicy creative life, of imagination and radical silliness and staring off into space like when you were a kid?  It’s going to break your heart.  Don’t let it happen.” – Anne Lamott – That was Jaime’s share for the world.

Now you know what Jaime Lee Curtis stands for.  She stands for enjoyment at home, with family, on the film set, while helping fund raiser for children’s hospitals and supporting drug & alcohol rehabs.   And she brilliantly permits her body and talents to paint a master piece of classic art with her beautiful nude dancing. Jaime Lee Curtis – a truly total woman in the graceful form of a lady.

His name is John Adam Belushi. He was borne on January 24, 1949 and exited our earth on March 5, 1982 at the very successful, yet young, age of 33 years old.  He was dynamic and award winning within every platform preformed: film, television, music, and play.  Up to the time of death, he was actually the only celebrity who had ever placed number one in all three categories: record, film and television show at the same time.

Tribute to John Belushi Click to Tweet

His face was so highly recognized by the public that he rarely carried a plastic identification card, such as a driver’s license.  He literally was able to renew his driver’s license, get his marriage certificate and cross over from the United States into Canada without needing to pull out an official I.D.  His face was his identification!

John Belushi was a very tall celebrity figure who measured 5’6”.  He was a living example that height is no stumbling block in life.  Another well-known figure, Military General and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, also measured 5’6”.  Belushi had a passion for reading about him.  A common phrase that John Belushi used when signing autographs was: “Wise Up!”

According to Wikipedia, John Adam Belushi is described as: “intense energy and raucous attitude.” Raucous according to Webster is: loud and unpleasant to listen to, and behaving in a very rough, noisy manner. John Belushi knew about the 7 second rule for making first impressions.  He knew he only had a seven second opportunity for each first meeting, preforming, interviewing, and influencing.  And he took advantage of that 7 second energetic attraction window, making sure that those in the same room and audience knew he was there and would remember it.

He married Judith Jacklin Belushi in 1976 and they were married until he died in 1982.  They were school sweethearts.  She was 15 going on 16 and he was 16 going on 17, just like in the song that was sung in the moonlight in the Gazebo in Roger and Hammerstein’s Sound of Music.

In an interview when asked to tell about what kind of husband John Belushi was, Mrs. Judith Belushi used the 80% positive / 20% forgotten rule in her thinking and evaluation of the love of her life. She only remembered the 80 % positive.  She says that she knows there was a negative 20% side to him, but it is the 80% good that she remembers.  That good side of John Belushi was: loving, a great provider and extremely protective, only wanting the best for her.  His best friend was Dan Aykroyd.  This best friend, Aykroyd, continues to be there to aid in her provision and protection as business partners for the House of Blues Night Club change nationwide.

Once John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were alone conversing and sunning at the beach while enjoying music.  The Ventures song, 2000 pound Bee, began to play. Between them they agreed that each would like to have that song played at their individual funeral.  They promised each other that whoever died first would be honored by the other playing that tape at the funeral.  Their pun of this plan was: “Wouldn’t it be great to lay this noisy, heavy tape on a church full of people!” John never knew he would ‘win’. And Dan Aykroyd was a man of honor to his best friend.

STOP ADDICTION ANIMATION 3

1000 family members and friends attended a memorial service in New York at the Cathedral of Saint John Devine. Aykroyd completed John Belushi’s self-directed finale. Mr. Aykroyd placed a portable music device beside the Cathedral pulpit microphone and played 2000 Pound Bee.  John Belushi had the best balcony seat in the house as his spirit could enjoy the stunned impact of his audience, immediately followed by great laughter. But that was not the curtain call.  Dan Aykroyd and Mrs. Judith Belushi continue to lavish the Blues Brother Music to John Beslushi fans with repeated opening nights nationwide in the House of Blues nightclubs.

The John Belushi fans know that the cause of his death was drug related.  Different industries have their own ‘kryptonite’ or goal reaching potions.  For example in the health and beauty spas they tend toward juicing and fruit and produce bars.  And the muscle building gyms trust and rely on different protein nutritional shakes. In the airlines and 18 wheeler vertical, they all live on coffee as they do they travel time duties.  Gamers enjoy delivered pizza.  Well, in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Hollywood was filled with drug use for that extra boost of talent endurance.  Everywhere you looked drugs were there.  The producers, the directors, and actors all seemed to be using them.  John was no exception.

STOP ADDICTION ANIMATION 3

According to the website Belushi.com, under the menu selection ‘death’, it was stated that on March 5, 1982, it was just another night for John. He was in his bungalow #3 with some friends working on a movie script.  But that night he decided that he wanted something to take him further than he had ever been. He did not know he would get his wish. John shot up a speed-ball. The mixing of heroin and cocaine that night had a cumulative on the brain slowing down John’s breathing finally causing complete respiratory failure.  Robin Williams had visited bungalow #3 that night and left.  Later on Robert DeNiro stopped by to see John Belushi in the #3 bungalow and saw that too much was going on so he stated to John as he left: “ If you ever get up again, give me a call.’

Belushi seemed to have a thought pocket or pattern about senior living and death. He and his lovely wife summered as renters in 1977 and 1978 on Martha Vineyard’s Island before they purchased their own home there.  And Belushi often said that at the Vineyards the air is fresh and one could get a good night’s sleep there. He told his wife: “We are going to be very old. Being here at the Vineyard is the key to living an old age.  Look around you.  Look at all these old people.  This is where people come to live to get old.”

The last time John Belushi and Judith were on the island together they actually drove by the Abel’s Hill Cemetery (where Belushi is buried) at Martha’s Vineyard.  And Judith said that she would like to be buried there.  He said:” I would like to have a Viking Funeral!”  In respect to the desire of John’s mother, Judith did not have the requested Viking Funeral for her late husband.  However, on the first anniversary of John Belushi’s death, his funeral wish was observed by setting fire to a dingy that held various Belushi’s mementos.  Then the burning dingy was put out to sea near Gay Head.

In 1990, while Judith Jacklin Belushi cleared the closets of years’ worth of her late husband’s clothes she stated:” I have kept things for some time that I always thought would be for and auction even before his death. The items were auctioned for a charity benefit.  The items have not been forgotten but each have been displayed in the spotlight of honor by fans and collectors of comedy lovers.  John Belushi is recognized as the 5’6” very tall man who made that first 7 second appearance an impact in every gathering and performance stage he entered.

John Belushi, as described in Wikipedia: “intense energy and raucous attitude”.   Could that imply the attracting force to prompt John Belushi’s viewing world to “Wise Up” and see that they are O.K.?  Could Belushi have been relaying to his audience that they can disregard their fears, doubts and insecurities of not having been socially perfect and let the laugh be on him!

Belushi was scheduled to present the first annual Best Visual Effects Oscar at the 1982 Academy Awards with Dan Aykroyd.  Aykroyd presented the award alone and stated from the podium. “My partner would have loved to have been here tonight to present this award since he was a bit of a visual effect all by himself.”
